Rice, Edward, Bennington, was born in Bennington February 19, 1821, and is engaged in farming, having a farm of two hundred acres. He has been surveyor for forty five years, lister for nearly twenty, selectman three years, and was postmaster at Bennington Center from 1843 to 1847. He was a son of Alvah and Haynes (Temmy) Rice, who were old settlers in this township. Edward Rice was married October 20, 1847, to Charlotte James, a daughter of Colonel Randall and Sarah (Eddy) James, of Hoosick, N. Y. They have had a family of five children: Sarah F., Elizabeth, wife of J. W. Ouackenbush, of Greenwood, Neb.; E. Alvah, C. Archie, and Frederick H.
