J. B. WOLFE was born at Charlottesville, Virginia, February 18, 1833, and died at Joplin, Missouri, June 19,
1906. He was educated at the University of Virginia, receiving both his academic and medical training in that Institution.
In the late fifties, he came to Scott County and not long thereafter married a Miss Wilson, of Russell County.
Some years later he purchased the Robin Kilgore farm, at the Old Fort House, near Nickelsville, and lived there
Late in the year 1878, he became superintendent of schools of Scott County, succeeding R. E. Wolfe In that office.
He held the office for two consecutive terms. Under his administration the schools of the county prospered and
greatly increased in number. His scholarly attainments fitted him to administer the free school system in its infancy
and do pioneer educational work in the county.
Dr. Wolfe was one of the leading physicians In the county, as well as one of its most polished scholars. He was
member of the Baptist Church and a minister of the gospel. He is buried in the cemetery at Nickelsville, Virginia.
