CHEW, COLBY and LARKIN. Sons of Col. Thomas Chew, sheriff of Orange in 1745, and Martha Taylor, great aunt of
President Madison and great grand aunt of President Taylor. Colby served in the expedition against the Shawnees
in 1756, was ensign in Washington's regiment in 1757, was wounded near Fort Duquesne in 1758, and falling into
the river, was drowned. Larkin, his brother, had his arm shattered by a ball in battle in 1754, and was a lieutenant
in the Second Virginia Regiment. (VI. Va. Hist. Mag. 345.)
