MARTIN O. SHERRICK, a representative citizen of Tarrs, Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, was born in Mount
Pleasant, March 15, 1840, the son of Abraham and Anna (Overholt) Sherrick.
Jacob Sherrick (grandfather) was born and reared in Berks county, Pennsylvania. After attaining his majority he
removed to Fayette county, where he passed the remaining portion of his life, and followed the occupation of a
farmer Hts children were Mattie married Mr Myers, a daughter, married Mr. Kintiset; John, Abraham and Martin.
Abraham, fourth child and second son of Jacob Sherrick, was born in Fayette county, and removed to Westmoreland
in young manhood, settling in East Huntingdon township, near Mount Pleasant. There he gave his entire attention
to agricultural pursuits during his active working life. In religious faith, he was a member of the Churcl: of
God. He married Anna Overholt, and their children were: Jacob: Abraham, deceased; John, deceased: Anna, died young;
Abbie, deceased; Betsey, married Joseph Walters; Susan, married Jacob Storer; Martin O., of whom later; Mary, married
Albert Stevenson; and Reuben.
Martin O. Sherrick was educated in the common schools of his native place, and early in life turned his attention
to farming, which occupation he followed exclusively until about 1885, since which time he has been engaged with'
the H. C. Frick and Empire Coal and Coke Works. Mr. Sherrick is an excellent workman, and enjoys the confidence
and esteem of his employers. He is a member of the Church of God. He married (first) Margaret Nicely, and their
children were: Curtis, Frank and Harry. Mrs. Sherrick died, and Mr. Sherrick married (second) Caroline Gongawere,
daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Gongawere. They have no children.
