ABRAHAM F. MYERS. Among the good citizens of Scottdale Abraham F. Myers holds a well recognized place. He is
a grandson of Michael Myers, who was born and reared in Somerset county, later moving to Westmoreland county, where
he passed his life as a farmer near Alverton. He was the father of the following children: Alexander, Jacob, Samuel,
Michael, mentioned hereafter: Dma and Eliza, who became the wife of Christian Fretz.
Michael Myers, son of Michael Myers, was born March 22, 1816, in Somerset county, and for some years followed the
trade of carpenter. The latter portion of his life he spent as a farmer in East Huntingdon township. He held the
offices of tax collector and supervisor, and affiliated with the Republican party. He was a member of the United
Brethren church of Mount Nebo. Mr. Myers married, November 9, 1837, Nancy, daughter of Henry and Nancy Fretz, and
their children were: Agnes, born July 30, 1838, married D. D. Hixson; Susanna, born January 17, 1840, married Martin
Detweilder; Ann Elizabeth, born March 13, 1841, married James Boyd; Catherine, born September 23, 1842, married
E. M. Stantz; Henry E., born May 8, 1844, married Sarah Rice; Hannah, born October 16, 1845, married Hilance Kelly;
Mahlon, born December 14, 1846, married Eliza Gault; Elizabeth, born May 6, 1848, married Jesse Oglevie; John Lyman,
born December 12, 1849, died April 22, 1850; Frances, born February 21, 1851, wife of Samuel Elenberger; Franklin,
born June 8, 1852, died April 3, 1858; Amzi, born February 7, 1854, died April 27, 1858; Abraham F.. mentioned
hereafter; Mary Ellen, born October 25, 1858, married Frank Derstine, and died December, 1892, and Emma, born November
9, 1861, married Joseph Hixson. Mr. Myers, the father of this large family, died April 20, 1882.
Abraham F. Myers, son of Michael And Nancy (Fretz) Myers, was born June 16, 1856, in Westmoreland cqpnty, and obtained
his education in the common schools. He lived as a farmer in East Huntingdon township until 1888, when he moved
to Scottdale and took a position with the Scottdale Sheet Mill Company, with whom he has since remained in the
capacity of a sheet roller. While a resident of East Huntingdon township he held the office of tax collector for
one term. He is treasurer of the American In surance Union and of the Iroquois, and also belongs to the Royal Arcanum
and the Beneficent Association of Iron & Steel Workers. In politics he is a staunch Republican, he and his
family are members of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Scottdale, in which he is a class leader and a mem
ber of the official board Mr Myers married May 29 1890 Laura Bell daughter of Philip Alexander and Catherine Sherbondy,
and they have two daughters: Hazel Mildred, born August 30, 1894; and Edith Catherine, born September 3, 1897.
