HARRY J. McLAUGHLIN, one of Unity township's youngest and prosperous farmers, was born on the home farm January
7, 1866. He is the second son of John T. McLaughlin whose history is on another
page. His youth was spent in acquiring an education in the township schools and at the Latrobe high school. Since
twenty-one he has been actively engaged in farming. His farm is the eastern half of the old McLaughlin homestead
now owned by the heirs of that estate. It contains one hundred and four acres of well tilled land, with six fine
springs of running water supplying both farm and residence. There are good orchards of different kinds of fruit.
Mr. McLaughlin makes a specialty of dairy farming, shipping daily to Pittsburg the product of nineteen cows. He
is modern and progressive in his methods, using silos and the best appliances and machinery known to dairy men.
The farm is well stocked with plenty of good horses. The farm house built by his grandfather has been rebuilt and
modernized, and in its setting of foliage makes a beautiful home. The barn is very large and well adapted to his
needs. Mr. McLaughlin has other business interests, among them a partnership in the firm of C. H. Geiger and Company,
shoe dealers in Greensburg.
Politically Harry J. McLaughlin is a Prohibitionist, firmly believing the principles of that party offer the only
true solution of the liquor problem. He is a member of Unity Presbyterian church which he serves as elder, as did
his father and grandfather before him. Is also secretary of the Sabbath school. He is a man of deep moral and religious
convictions. He is diligent in business, is a successful man and stands high in the estimation of those who know
thim.
The wife of his choice was Ida R. Geiger, daughter of George W. and Sarah (Peterson) Geiger, of Unity township.
George W. is a farmer, a Republican, and both he and his wife are members of Pleasant Unity Presbyterian church.
Mr. and Mrs. Geiger are living, he at the age of seventyseven and she fifty nine. Their children were: 1, Scott
L., cultivates the home farm; 2. Charles H., firm of C. H. Geiger and Company, Greensburg. He married Elizabeth
Hudson, and they are the parents of one child, a daughter; 3. Clark B., a bookkeeper, married Myrtle Welty, they
have one son; 4. Ella M., died in 1891, aged thirteen; 5. George W., dkd in infancy; and Ida R., born June 14,
1870, she was educated in the public schools, and married Mr. McLaughlin September 6, 1894. Two children have been
born of this marriage, Florence Lucille, born January 3, 1900, and Mary Elizabeth, May 24, 1903.
