MICHAEL McARDLE. Few men in Westmoreland county have been longer identified with the coke industry than has
Michael McArdle. He is a son of Stephen and Agnes (Irwin) McArdle.
Michael McArdle emigrated to the United States in 1871, and first settied in Dunbar, Pennsylvania, where he was
employed in the coke works. and at the end of a year moved to Scottdale, being one of the pioneer settlers of the
borough. There he has resided ever since, and for a number of years was in ihe service of the Charlotte Furnace
Company, being employed in their coke works. For the last ten years he has been engaged in the pipe mill works.
He and his family are members of the Scoftdale Roman Catholic church Mr McArdle married in 1866, Catherine, daughter
of Peter and Anna (Burnes) Morris and their children were; Agnes, wife of Owen Fagan, and has one child Joseph,
Mars died in infancy Patrick, died at the age of eight years, Annie wife of Michael Nash and has one child, Regina,
Catherine M , a stenographer, employed in the office of the H. C. Frick Company, at Scottdale Fannie Elizabeth,
resides at home Michael E, a fireman on the Pennsylvania railroad Sadie C. a graduate of the Scottdale High school
and also of the Douglass Business College. of Connellsville, and is employed as a stenographer by the firm of Smith
& Kells Thomas P., a fireman on the Pennsylvania railroad; May Anglus, died in childhood. It is from worthy
and industrious families like this, the members of which are employed in useful occupations, that a class of citizens
indispensable to the welfare of the community is largely recruited.
