WILLIAM S. LESSIG. The family of which William S. Lessig of Scottdale, is a representative, has been for several
generations resident in Westmoreland county. The father of Mr. Lessig, George Lessig. was born and reared at Delmont.
Salem township. For some years he followed his trade which was that of a brick moulder, and in 1872 moulded the
brick used in building the old courthouse. He also worked for some time in the woolen mill at Delmoint. He was
a member of the German Reformed church. His wife was Lizzie, daughter of George Lose, and their children were:
Maggie, married Henry Lentz, who died in August, 1900. His widow married in 1902, Robert Berger. Mary, married
S. K. Hockenberry. William S., mentioned hereafter. Katie, wife of James M. Dodson.
William S. Lessig, son of George and Lizzie (Lose) Lessig, was born August 2, 1860, at Delmont, where he received
his education in the common schools. When but fourteen years of age he went to Scottdale, where he obtained employment
in the iron works of Everson & Macrum, which is now a part of the American Steel Plant. Sufficient testimony
as to Mr. Lessig's capability and trustworthiness is found in the fact that he has since worked continuously in
the same mill, rising gradually to his present position, which is that of a heater. He is a charter member of Lodge
No. 1105, R. A., and of K. of. M., also belonging to Lodge No. 107, Heptasophs, and M. W. of A., No. 9779 all of
Scottdale. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Scottdale. Mr. Lessig married Sadie J., daughter
of Michael and Elizabeth Smithley, and granddaughter of Christopher and Margaret Smithley and their children are:
George W., born July 17, 1885, who was four years and five months with the firm of Lawrence & Brook. pharmacists
of Scottdale, and is now (1905) attending the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Hazel E., born March 13, 1891.
