JOHN SCHAFER, baker and confectioner, Coudersport, is a native of Germany, born in 1850. He was reared in his
native country, and in 1869 came to America. He first located in New York City, where he lived until 1875, when
he moved to New Jersey, and thence, in 1881, to Coudersport, Penn. He learned the baker's trade in his native country,
and on coming to Coudersport embarked in business on Main street, where he has built up a good trade, being now
one of the leading business men of the place He was married in New Jersey, in 1878, to Maggie Stucker, and they
have two children: Caroline and Georgie. In politics Mr. Schafer is a Democrat, but is in no sense a politician.
He is a member of the order of Knights of the Maccabees. In religious faith he is a Protestant, but is a member
of no denomination.
