JAMES S. HAYNES, farmer, P. 0. Harrison Valley, was born in Guilford, Chenango Co., N. Y., August 17, 1839,
a son of Samuel and Eunice (Copley) Haynes, both natives of the State of New York, who settled in Harrison township,
Potter Co., Penn., in 1842, where the father cleared and improved the farm now occupied by James S., and on which
both parents died. Their children were Maria (Mrs. Henry Outman), Rowland V., James S. and Sarah A. (Mrs. John
Olney). James S. Haynes was reared in Harrison township, receiving a common school education. He has always devoted
his attention to farming, and at his father's death succeeded him to the ownership of the homestead by purchase.
and here he has always resided. He was married, October 16, 1860, to Elizabeth, daughter of Willis and Julia (Yale)
Spencer, of Harrison township. They have one son, Lewis E. Mr Haynes is a representative farmer and citizen. Politically
he is a Republican, and has held several of the local offices in the township.
