WILLIAM J. BROWN, farmer and lumberman, P. 0. Millport. was born in Washington county, N. Y., October 20, 1826,
a son of William and Ruth (Saxon) Brown. He was reared in St. Croix, Wis., and Tioga county, Penn. In 1845 he enlisted
in the Mexican war, in which he served eleven months. In 1846 he settled in Sweden, Potter county, where he was
engaged in lumbering up to 1865. He then removed to Millport, in Sharon township, where he has since resided, and
been engaged in lumbering and farming. July 29, 1849, he married Lucinda, daughter of Silas and Cyntha (Felt) Nelson,
of Eulalia township, this county, and they have six children, viz. : Ella (Mrs. Joshua Dunning), Alice (Mrs. Ransom
Munger), Rose (Mrs. Charles McDonald), Herbert (married to Nettie Sloat), Fannie (Mrs. Eugene C. Drake) and Charles
(married to Libbie Hallett). Mr. Brown is a prominent and leading citizen of Sharon township. Politically he is
a Republican. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, both lodge and chapter.
