GARRETT A. CONOVER, mason and carpenter, P. O. Titusville, was born December 2, 1828, in Essex County, N. J.
His parents, David and Sallie (Everett) Conover, of New Jersey, came to Oil Creek Township, this county, in 1832,
where the latter died in 1835, after which Mr. Conover returned to New Jersey, where he now lives. Our subject
remained in this county with his uncle, William Kerr, and here he married, December 4. 1851, Miss Mary Ann McLaughlin,
born January 14, 1835, at Kerr's Hill. Her grandfather, James McLaughlin, a native of Ireland, settled in Rome
Township, this county, in 1800, and there died at the age of one hundred and four years. Her father, John McLaughlin,
married Susan Kerr. They settled at Kerr's Hill, where they resided until their deaths. Our subject and wife then
settled at Kerr's Hill, where Mr. Conover has ever since followed his occupation as carpenter and joiner and stone
mason. Their children are - Mrs. Susan E. Mars, Samuel M., Mrs. Ida Crawford, Howard, Hattie J., Willie and Garrie
B. Mr. Conover has served his township in almost all the offices, holding several from two to four terms each,
and has always discharged his duties faithfully, and to the entire satisfaction of the people. He and his worthy
wife are consistent members of the Presbyterian Church, in which he has for many years been an Elder. In politics
he is a Republican.
