Andrew J. Strayer is a successful and well known business man of Johnstown, where he is engaged in the building
of fine homes. He is a native of West Taylor Township, Cambria County, born Nov. 28, 1862, and the son of John
A. and Susanna (Dickey) Strayer. (See biographical sketch of J. D. Strayer of the John A. Strayer family.)
After attending the district schools, Andrew J. Strayer learned the carpenter trade and at an early age engaged
in the contracting business. He has been established in business in Johnstown since 1891 and ranks among the reliable
builders of the city.
On Dec. 26, 1888, Mr. Strayer was united in marriage with Miss Sadie C. Shaffer, of Jackson Township, Cambria County.
To them were born eight children, as follows: Edith, married Chester M. Strayer, lives in Johnstown; Leroy, engaged
in business with his father, is a veteran of the World War; Forrest R., Norman and Homer, all associated in business
with their father; Ruth, John A. and Dorothy Susan, all at home.
Politically Mr. Strayer is. a Republican and has served as a member of the school board. He is a member of the
Church of the Brethren. The Strayer home and general office is at 1056 Berg Street.
