H. A. Schmucker, a widely known contractor and builder of Johnstown, is a native of Pennsylvania. He was born
in Somerset County, Oct. 20, 1881, and is the son of Aaron and Mary (Reitz) Schmucker.
Aaron Schmueker, deceased, was a successful farmer and stockman of Somerset County, Pa., for many years. He also
engaged in contracting and building. He died April 12, 1917, and his wife died in 1896. To Mr. and Mrs. Schmucker
were born six children, as follows: George, lives at Dixon, Ill.; Charles, lives in Somerset County, Pa.; Minnie,
deceased; Elmer, a farmer, lives in Oregon; Sadie, married Silas Cobaugh, lives at Roxbury, Pa.; and H. A., the
subject of this sketch.
After completing his schooling in Somerset County, H. A. Schmucker worked at the carpenter trade with his father.
In 1894 he came to Johnstown, where he has since lived. He established his present business in 1914 and he ranks
among the reliable builders of the city.
On June 20, 1907, Mr. Schmucker was united in marriage with Miss Rose Bracken, of Indiana County, Pa., where she
was born Sept. 30, 1878. They have three daughters: Ethel, born Jan. 25, 1910; Mary, born Jan. 21, 1913; and Helen,
born Aug. 30, 1917.
Mr. Schmucker is a Republican, a member of the First Brethren Church and the Maccabees.
