Robert V. Raab is a well known young business man and leading citizen of Johnstown, where he is engaged in the
general insurance business. He was born in this city, March 20, 1896, and is the son of Charles V. and Carrie E.
Charles V. Raab, retired, was for many years prominently identified with the business interests of Johnstown. He
was born here, Sept. 19, 1872, and his wife was born Nov. 20, 1872. He is the son of John and Elizabeth (Vomhof)
Raab, pioneers of Cambria County. Until his retirement, John V. Raab was successfully engaged in the wholesale
liquor business, which had been established by his father during the early days. Mr. Raab is a Republican, a member
of the Lutheran Church, and belongs to the Elks Lodge, and Johnstown Turnverein. There are three children in the
Raab family: Robert V., the subject of this sketch; Carl K., born June 2, 1907; and Dorothy C., a twin sister of
Carl H. She died in infancy.
Robert V. Raab was educated in the public schools and was graduated from Johnstown High School in 1917. He was
then employed by the Cambria Steel Company for several years and later by the Atlantic Refining Company, with whom
he remained until 1920. In that year he established the Robert V. Raab Insurance Agency. In 1925, in partnership
with C. F. Lancaster, he purchased the Johnstown Real Estate Company, which had been conducted by Walter C. Swank,
deceased. Mr. Raab is the representative of the Newark Fire Insurance Company, Hudson Fire Insurance Company of
New York, Home Fire Insurance Company of California, Commercial Union Assurance Company of London, England, American
Casual of Reading, and the Pennsylvania Indemnity Exchange of Philadelphia.
On Oct. 17, 1918, Mr. Raab was united in marriage with Miss Edith Emily VonLunen, who was born in Johnstown, Jan.
6, 1897, the daughter of George and Jessie (Leventry) VonLunen. They have two sons: Robert Charles, Jr., born Aug.
2, 1919; and Richard George, born May 9, 1923.
Mr. Raab is a member of the Lutheran Church, is a thirty second degree Mason, and belongs to the Eagles Lodge.
He is a Republican.
