Edward Melvin Harris is a prominent young musician of Johnstown, where he conducts a studio, in the Ledger Building.
He was born in Johnstown, May 26, 1899, and is a son of Hiram H. and Hannah (Edwards) Harris.
Mr. Harris was educated in the Johnstown public schools. He studied voice under James Stephens Martin, of Pittsburgh,
and piano composition and pipe organ under T. Carl Whitmer, of Pittsburgh. He was a teacher at the Arnold School
in Pittsburgh. Mr. Harris has toured through the Southern and Middle Western states both as a dancer and pianist.
In 1923 he opened his studio in the Ledger Building, Ot Main Street. Sub jects taught are piano, musical construction
and the ballet.
Mr. Harris has charge of all ballet classes at the Dramamount School of Music Drama. He writes plots, designs costumes,
and composes music for one act operas and is a contributor of poetry to magazines. He has been organist at Zion's
Lutheran Church and the First Presbyterian Church, and at present is organist at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic
Mr. Harris is a member of the Musicians' Club of Pittsburgh. His home Is at 100 Venango Street, Westmont. He has
a wide acquaintance and is recognized as a master in his art.
