Biography of Earl F. Glock

Earl F. Glock is a successful and representative young business man of Johnstown, where he is vice president and general manager of the Swank Hardware Company. He was born in this city, Oct. 27, 1890, and is the son of Charles R. and Elmaretta Fend (Swank) Glock.

Charles R. Glock, deceased, was for many years a leading business man of Johnstown. He was born in Huntingdon County, Pa., Nov. 2, 1867, the son of Christian and Fredericka Schwaderer (Heider) Glock, who came to this country from Germany in 1864 and settled in Huntingdon County, Pa. Charles R. Glock was about nine months old when his parenth removed to Millville Borough, now part of the city of Johnstown. He spent the remainder of his life here, and in February, 1890, acquired a partnership interest in the Swank Hardware Company. Two years later he became general manager of the business, and in 1903, when the Swank Hardware Company was incorporated, he was elected vice president and general manager. Mr. Glock served in this capacity until his death, Nov. 28, 1924. His widow resides in Johnstown. Mr. and Mrs. Glock had four children: Earl F., the subject of this sketch; Karl Edward, Katharine Freda, and Robert Jacob.

After completing his high school course in Johnstown in 1909, Earl F. Glock entered Penn State College, from which he received his degree in 1912. He immediately became associated with the Swank Hardware Company, and served as sales manager until 1925, at which time he was elected to his present responsible position.

On Oct. 9, 1917, Mr. Glock was married to Miss Claire McNeelis, the daughter of Edward T. and Margaret (Cooney) McNeelis. Mr. McNeelis, who died in 1917, was a prominent attorney of Johnstown. His widow lives in this city. To Mr. and Mrs. Glock four children have been born: Charles Robert, Edward Thomas, Helen L., and Earl F., Jr.

Politically Mr. Glock is a Republican. He is a member of the First Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Phi Gamma Phi fraternity. He has extensive business interests in the city and is secretary and treasurer of the Swank Motor Sales Company and director of the Pennsylvania Trust Company.
