J. Wilber Crotzer, superintendent of accounts and finance for the city of Johnstown, is a substantial citizen
of Cambria County. He was born in Lock Haven, Pa., July 22, 1872, and is a son of William and Mary Ann (Davis)
William Crotzer, deceased, was a native of Pennsylvania. For a number of years he operated a farm near Cedar Run,
Pa., and later lived at Lock Haven, where he died. His wife, a native of Steuben County, N. Y., is also deceased.
To Mr. and Mrs. Crotzer the following children were born: George, Frank, Charles, James, Adam J., Harry D., and
William A., all deceased. Kate, married W. L. Carter, lives at Bethlehem, Pa.; Elizabeth, married J. Webster Swank,
lives at El Paso, Texas; Robert O., lives in Johnstown; and J. Wilber, the subject of this sketch.
J. Wither Crotzer was reared and educated at Lock Haven and began his business career in the employ of the Lock
Haven Nail Company. He was later connected with the A. M. McLean Shingle Company of Ridgeway, Pa., later being
sent to Pembroke, Va., as a representative, where he remained until 1902. He spent the following year in Lock Haven
and in 1903 removed to Johnstown, where he entered the employ of the Lorain Steel Company. He was afterwards in
the employ of the National Radiator Company of Johnstown, after which he was employed by the Johnstown Passenger
Railroad Company for five years. In 1912 he entered the police department under Mayor Cauffiel and served for nine
months, after which he served as a member of the city health department for four years. He was then appointed food
and milk inspector, being the first to receive that appointment in the city, which he filled for two years. He
spent the following four years in the weights and measure department and in 1923 was elected to the city council
on the Republican ticket for a term of four years.
In May, 1896, Mr. Crotzer was married to Miss Ida B. Blough, the daughter of Ephriam and Mary Blough, both deceased.
Mr. and Mrs. Crotzer have five children: Elizabeth, married Harry C. Gore, living in Johnstown; Edna May, married
Milford L. Wisar, lives in Johnstown, and they have a daughter, Doris. Jean; Clyde D., Nellie Kathryn and Anna
May, all at home.
Mr. Crotzer is a member of the Progressive Brethren Church, Masonic Lodge, Knights of the Golden Eagle, Progressive
American League, Patriotic Order Sons of America, and the James A. Garfield, Jr., Order of United American Mechanics.
