Frank L. Bowen, who has been a successful and well known dentist and oral surgeon of Johnstown for a number
of years, was born at Binghampton, N. Y., Oct. 4, 1891, and is a son of Edward and Sarah (Murphy) Bowen.
Edward Bowen, who owned and operated a large cigar factory for many years at Binghampton, is now living retired
in that city.
Frank L. Bowen attended the public schools of Binghampton and was graduated from the high school in the class of
1909. He took up the study of dentistry at the Medical Chi. School of Dentistry of Philadelphia, a branch of the
University of Pennsylvania, and later took postgraduate work at the Philadelphia Post Graduate School in 1916.
In February, 1926, he completed a course in oral surgery at Green Point Hospital, New York City. In 1916 he located
in Johnstown and began the practice of his profession, with offices at 123 Market Street.
On Aug. 30, 1921, Doctor Bowen was married to Miss Abrilla Leahey, a daughter of John and Mary Leahey, of Lilly,
Pa. They have two children, Frank L., Jr., born Sept. 1, 1922, and William Ambrose, born Dec. 7, 1925. The family
home is at 309 Luzerne Avenue, Westmont.
During the World war Doctor Bowen enlisted for service in May, 1917, and received his commission as first lieutenant
at that time. He was not called into active service, however, until in July, 1918. He was stationed at Camps Meade
and Stewart for a time and later went overseas with the Seventh Sanitary Train of the Seventh Division and was
across nearly one year seeing active service.
Doctor Bowen is identified with the Democratic party in politics. He is a member of Mother of Sorrows Church at
Westmont, and belongs to the Reserve Officers' Dental Association, the American Legion, the Central Dentists' Association,
and the Alumnus Society of his college. He and his wife are well known in Johnstown and have many friends.
