G. R. Betts is well and favorably known in Johnstown, where he has engaged in business for more than 20 years.
He was born at Stoyestown, Somerset County, Oct. 14, 1871, and is the son of William and Levina (Miller) Betts.
William Betts was a native of Somerset County, Pa., and his wife was also born there. He was a carpenter contractor
and is now deceased.
After finishing his schooling in the public schools, G. R. Betts entered the employ of John T. Wolf, of Moxham.
He later was associated with Alexander Orris for several years and in 1904 established a business at 918 Bedford
Street and in 1914 his present business at 1311 Franklin Street. Mr. Betts does general painting and specializes
in house and automobile work. He has a well equipped shop and employs approximately 15 men.
On July 10, 1897, Mr. Betts was married to Miss Grace Zimmerman, the daughter of Herman and Jennie (Hunt) Zimmerman,
of Johnstown. They have five children: Walter, Edith, Edward, John, and Ruth. The sons are engaged in business
with their father.
Mr. Betts is an independent voter. He is a member of the Presbyterian church, is a thirty-second degree Scottish
Rite Mason and belongs to the Junior Order of United American Mechanics and Knights of the Macabees.
