Louis E. Berkebile ranks among the leading and representative business men of
Cambria County. He is identified with Berkebile Bros., engineers and constructors, Swank Building, Johnstown. Mr.
Berkebile was born in this city, Aug. 15, 1886, and is the son of Louis and Matilda (Faust) Berkebile.
Louis E, Berkebile attended the public schools of Johnstown, and attended Juanita College. He then attended Pennsylvania
State College four years, from which he received his degree in 1910. Mr. Berkebile spent the following four years
in general construction and engineering work in various parts of the United States, and in January, 1914, organized
the present firm in partnership with his brother, Foster H. Berkebile. It is the largest contracting and engineering
firm in this section of the state and employs approximately 200 people. The following construction jobs were handled
by Berkebile Eros.: Johnstown Central High School, which was erected at a cost of $1,250,000; Gately-Fitzgerald
Building, Johnstown; Johnstown Public Safety Building, Henderson Brothers Laundry, Cupp Grocery Company warehouses,
Penn Traffic Company addition, Galliker Ice Cream Company, the Swank Building, Brown Fayro Company plant, VanDyke
Brick Company, Electric Building of the Bethlehem Steel Company, and various other projects of a similar nature.
On Nov. 27, 1915, Mr. Berkebile was united in marriage with Miss Lena M. Adams, the daughter of Robert and Mary
Adams, residents of Brockway, Pa. Mr. and Mrs. Berkebile have a daughter, Mary Margaret.
Mr. Berkebile is a member of the Presbyterian Church, Rotary Club, Sigma Chi fraternity, Old Colony Club, is a
director of the Chamber of Commerce, Johnstown, Pa., and the Sunnehanna Country Club. He is a Republican.
