Arthur M. Bathurst is well and favorably known in Johnstown, where he is superintendent of transportation for
the Johnstown Traction Company. He was born Jan. 16, 1878, at Howard, Center County, Pa., a son of William L. and
Ellen (Schenck) Bathurst, both of whom are deceased. Mr. Bathurst was for many years in the employ of the Philadelphia
& Erie Railroad and met death in a railroad accident in 1878.
Arthur M. Bathurst received his education in the public schools of Howard and when a young man entered the employ
of the Bethlehem Steel Company, where he remained for four years. In 1903 he was employed as a motorman by the
Johnstown Traction Company, which position he held for 14 years. He was advanced to inspector, where he served
a number of years efficiently, was promoted to his present responsible position six years ago.
On March 8, 1900, Mr. Bathurst was united in marriage with Miss Belle Dull, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Dull,
both of whom are deceased. Mr. Dull was in the employ of the Johnstown Traction Company for a period of over 30
years as a foreman. To Mr. and Mrs. Bathurst one daughter was born, Marion, who married J. B. Umberger of Johnstown,
and they have two children, Betty and Wade.
Mr. Bathurst is a Republican and a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. The family are members of
the United Brethren Church. They reside at Highstone Heights.
