Barry S. Bandell, who is successfully engaged in the general insurance business, is a well known citizen of
Johnstown. He was born in Birmingham, England, and educated at Liverpool. He was identified with a mercantile exporting
house in Liverpool, England, for several years until the Boar war, when he went to South Africa and acted as chief
clerk to Maj. Gen. A. Fitzroy Hart of the British army. After the war Mr. Bandell remained in South Africa until
1908 and was engaged in the real estate and brokerage business at Johannesburg. He came to the United States in
1908 and located in Pittsburgh, where he served for eight years as a buyer for the Solomon's Department Store.
He came to Johnstown in 1919 and was connected with the Nathan Department Store here until 1922, at which time
he established his present insurance business. Mr. Bandell represents the following companies: Metropolitan Casualty
Company of New York, American Eagle Fire Insurance Company of New York, Globe & Rutgers of New York, Insurance
Company of the State of Pennsylvania, New Brunswick Fire Insurance Company of New Jersey, and the Mutual Life Insurance
Company of New York. His offices are located at 577 Vine Street.
Mr. Bandell is a member of the following organizations: Johnstown Association of Life Underwriters, Cambria County
Insurance Federation, Chamber of Commerce, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Y. M. C. A., Y. M. H. A., B'nai B'rith,
and a trustee of the Beth Zion Temple.
