Polo C. Azzara is a substantial citizen of Cresson, where he is well known as a road contractor. He is a native
of Italy, born Sept. 22, 1872, and the son of Samuel and Juanita Azzara.
Both Samuel Azzara and his wife were born in Italy. He was active in railroad construction work during his entire
life and is now deceased. His wife, who is 82 years of age, resides in Italy. Mr. and Mrs. Azzara were the parents
of six sons, one of whom is deceased.
Polo C. Azzara was reared and educated in his native land and in 1898 emigrated to the United States and settled
at Barnesboro, Pa., where he was prominent as a road builder and contractor for about 18 years. He then removed
to Cresson, where he has since engaged in business.
In 1896 Mr. Azzara was united in marriage with Miss Theresa Mary Vigilanti, also a native of Italy, and the daughter
of Dominic and Elizabeth Vigilanti. Mr. Vigilanti resides in Italy and his wife is deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Azzara
the following children have been born: Dominic, deceased; Samuel, died in infancy; Juanita, a student; Samuel John,
a graduate of St. Francis College and the law department of Georgetown University, Washington, D. C.; and Esther
Elizabeth, a student at Cresson School for Girls.
Mr. Azzara and his family hold membership in the Catholic Church, and he is identified with the Elks and Moose
Lodge, and the Rotary Club of Cresson. He is a Republican.
