Lucas County, OH Biographies

Zale A. Reuben, the first vice president of the Reuben Realty Company of Toledo, was born in this city on the 27th of November, 1894. Here at the usual age he became a public school pupil, passing through consecutive grades. and later he had the benefit of instruction in the Central high school of Detroit, Michigan, where he was graduated when seventeen years of age. He afterward returned to Toledo, where he started in the real estate business and through the intervening period he has operated along this line. In 1911 he became associated with his brother, Al E. Reuben, under the style of the Reuben Realty Company. Since that time the business has constantly grown, the number of their clients increasing year by year, so that after a time they were obliged to seek enlarged quarters and today occupy the commodious ground floor offices at Nos. 607 and 609 Madison avenue. Even with what formerly seemed a spacious suite the Reuben organization is now cramped for space and plans are being discussed concerning the remodeling and construction of a model real estate building on the property at 311 Superior street, which was purchased by the company for office purposes two years ago. Their plan is to build on that site one of the most complete real estate buildings in the country - one that will house their attorneys, architects, building and insurance departments and all the other branches of a thoroughly modern and up to date realty organization. Steady advancement has marked the trend of business under the direction of the Reuben Company, which has long occupied a place in the front ranks of the realtors of Toledo. The brothers have platted twenty eight additions, which have featured largely not only in the city's expansion but also in its adornment, and they are now planning to place several more allotments on the market. They are continually seeking out new fields for their activity and show marked initiative in carrying on the business. The Reuben Realty Conipany was incorporated in 1915 and they have specialized since in handling subdivision properties, one of these being Reno-by-the-Lake, comprising nine hundred and forty seven acres, another being Elmwood Park in West Toledo, containing two hundred and fifty building sites. Still another is the Gorny addition, comprising six hundred building lots. The company also maintains in connection with the sale of realty an extensive building department for the purpose of erecting homes and they employ seventy five people. Zale A. Reuben is the first vice president of this company, with his brother as the president, and he is also the secretary and a director of the Toledo Mortgage Company. The brothers have conducted their interests along the most progressive lines. The labors of the one seem amply to supplement and round out the labors of the other, making this a strong and resourceful firm, while their interests and activities are constantly expanding, and have 'now reached mammoth proportions.

Mr. Reuben makes his home with his brother. Fraternally he is connected with the Masonic lodge and also with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He is well known to the membership of the Toledo Yacht Club and the Oliver Park Riding Club, in which his geniality and good cheer are considered valuable assets, while the circle of his friends, not only through club relationship but in other walks of life as well, is constantly increasing.
