Thomas Riley Manton, devoting his attention to law practice as a member of the firm of MantOn & Manton,
was born in Van Wert, Ohio, April 18, 1889, and is the son of the distinguished Judge John P. Manton. who has long
been recognized as a representative member of the Ohio bar. His mother bore the maiden name of Mathilde M. Goulden.
In the public schools Thomas R. Manton pursued his early education and afterwards attended St. John's College at
Toledo, Ohio, from which he was graduated with the class of 1910. After the completion of his more speciflcallv
literary course he remained there as a law sthdent and completed the prescribed law course with the class of 1915.
In the same year he was admitted to the bar and through the intervening period has engaged in general practice.
In January, 1921, he entered into partnership with his father, Judge Manton, under the present firm style. He is
also the secretary and treasurer of the J. Stanley O'Connell Theatrical Company and the secretary of the Toledo
Dental Supply Company, hut he concentrates his efforts and attention upon the law and his progress has resulted
from earnest effort, close application and the exercise of his native talents.
On the 20th of June, 1916, Mr. Manton was married to Miss Helen Murphy of Toledo and they have one daughter, Mary
Eileen. Mr. Manton greatly enjoys golf and fishing, to which he turns for needed rest and recreation. He belongs
to the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and in the line of his profession his connection is with the Lucas County
Bar Association. Like his father, he is making steady progress in his chosen calling and is adding new luster to
the family record as given in connection with the history of the Ohio bar.
