HARRIET L. KEELER, a veteran educator of Cleveland, is known to many thousand of readers by the books that she wrote and compiled as a help to nature lovers, particularly the volumes, "Our Native Trees," "Our Northern Shrubs," "Our Garden Flowers," and "Wild Flowers of Early Spring." She was born in New York State, in 1846, graduated from Oberlin College, and received honorary degrees from the Western Reserve University. She taught as superintendent of primary instruction at Cleveland from 1871 to 1879, was teacher in the Central High School from 1879 to 1909 and superintendent of schools for a few months in 1912.
