Biography of F. L. Summer
Columbiana County, OH

F. L. Summer, postmaster of Bayard, is well and favorably known in Columbiana County, where he has spent his entire life. He was born in West Township, Columbiana County, Sept. 18, 1858, and is the son of Daniel and Anna (Delloff) Summer, both deceased.

F. L. Summer attended the district schools of West Township and attended Mt. Union College. He engaged in teaching school for 10 years and for the past 20 years has been a member of the board of education and clerk of the board. He was a promoter of the Bayard Electric Company and served as its president for three years. Mr. Summer has been postmaster of Bayard since 1917.

On Oct. 11, 1884, Mr. Summer was united in marriage with Miss Mary Catherine Myers. Mrs. Summer was born in Hanover Township, Columbiana County, Jan. 27, 1867, a daughter of James S. and Susanna (Ewing) Myers, natives of Ohio, and both now deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Summer have four children: Georgianna, married M. E. Smeltz, and they have two daughters, Alice and Ruby; Chester, married Minnie Bet; and they have three children, Orva, Velma and Ivan; Grace, wife of Ed Taylor, and they have three children, Mary Ellen, Georgianna, and Franklin; and Carl Howard, at home.

Mr. Summer is an independent voter. He holds membership in the Christian Church and is a substantial citizen of the community.
