Biography of William A. Rankin

William A. Rankin, owner of the Auto Laundry Company, Leetonia, is a well known young business man of that place. He was born at Leetonia, Nov. 6, 1893, and is a son of Alex and Margaret (Almond) Rankin.

Alex Rankin was a miller and for many years operated the Leetonia Mills. He and his wife now live retired at Leetonia.

W. A. Rankin received his education in the public schools. He studied telegraphy and was an operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company for two years. He then joined the navy and was on the U. S. S. Pennsylvania for 27 months, during which time he made quite a number of round trips to France. Mr. Rankin held the rank of petty officer. He returned to Leetonia and was in the employ of the Rankin Brothers Milling Company, until he opened his present business in 1924. Mr. Rankin has a well equipped garage and carries a complete line of automobile accessories as well as gas and oil, and specializes on car washing. His garage is located on Columbia Street in the Morgan Building.

Mr. Rankin is a Republican; a member of the Presbyterian Church; belongs to the Masonic Blue Lodge of Leetonia, 401 Chapter of Salem, and Kiwanis Club. He is unmarried and lives at 80 Walnut Street.
