Ira F. Mellinger, who is extensively engaged in the lumber business, with headquarters at Leetonia, ranks among
the representative and successful business men of Columbiana County. He was born in this city, Dec. 21, 1870, and
is the son of Henry C. and Catherine (Keyser) Mellinger.
Henry C. Mellinger, deceased, was a pioneer lumber man of this section. He established the old Mellinger Lumber
Company, which concern has been out of business since 1900. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mellinger are deceased.
Ira F. Mellinger attended the schools of Leetonia and in 1888 was graduated from the local high school. In his
early life he was associated with his father's business for ten years and in 1898 established his present business.
Mr. Mellinger is a widely known wholesale and retail lumber dealer of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and
carries on a business of large volume. His three sons, Wilbur S., Henry Ross, and Edward W. are associated in business
with him.
On Dec. 31, 1891, Mr. Mellinger was married to Miss Effie M. Sitler, the daughter of Joseph M. and Ella M (Walters)
Sitler. They have three sons: Wilbur S., a graduate of Gettysburg College; Henry Ross, a graduate of Lehigh University;
and Edward W., a graduate of Cornell University.
Mr. Mellinger is a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge and Shrine, and the Kiwanis
Club. He is a Republican. The Mellinger family is widely known and highly esteemed throughout the county.
