William W. Long is among the highly esteemed citizens of Leetonia, where he has been a resident for many years.
He is a native of Columbiana County, born at Salem, July 4, 1869, the son of Joseph F. and Isabelle (MacDonald)
Joseph F. Long, deceased, spent his entire life in Salem and engaged in business there. He died Jan. 5, 1919, and
his wife died June 10, 1924.
After completing his schooling at Leetonia, W. W. Long was employed in the store of John Leavitt for five years.
He then became connected with the Erie Railroad and since 1896 has been employed continuously by the Erie Railroad
in the local offices. He has various business interests and is a director of the Savings & Loan Company and
the Spatholt Hardware Company.
On Sept. 26, 1904, Mr. Long was married to Martha (McKelvey) Chase, the daughter of Thomas and Anna McKelvey. By
a former marriage, Mrs. Long has a son, Fred E. Chase, who lives at New Brighton, Pa.
Mr. Long is a Democrat and served as mayor of Leetonia from 1917 until 1921. He has been township clerk for 27
years and is also a member of the school board. He is a charter member of the Kiwanis Club and is affiliated with
the Knights of Pythias. Mr. Long has always taken an active interest in the affairs of the community and has a
wide acquaintance in Columbiana County.
