D. E. Jack is an extensive farmer and stockman of Madison Township and a substantial citizen of Columbiana County.
He was born on the farm where he lives, Jan. 11, 1872, and is the son of Hugh and Isabel (McIntosh) Jack.
Hugh Jack was born in Scotland and at the age of 20 years came to this country and settled in Madison Township,
Columbiana County. He engaged in general farming and was a stone mason by trade, being a pioneer in the latter
field of work in this section. He took part in the construction of the railroad when it was built through Wellsville.
Mr. Jack was a staunch Republican and a life long member of the Yellow Creek Presbyterian Church. Four children
were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack: Margaret, W. A., and Charles G., all deceased; and D. E., the subject of this sketch.
D. E. Jack received his education in Witch Hollow District School, Madison Township, and began his business career
in the employ of Riggs Company, general merchants of Wellsville. After a number of years he engaged in farming
and stock raising and since 1909 has lived on his present farm of 77 acres. Mr. Jack is a grain farmer and also
raises a good grade of stock.
On Oct. 19, 1898, Mr. Jack was married to Miss Mary Nettie McIntosh, who was born on the Jack farm, Jan. 29, 1875,
the daughter of William 'T. and Catherine F. (Falconer) McIntosh, natives of Madison Township. Mr. McIntosh was
a veteran of the Civil War. He died in January, 1905, and his wife died March 2, 1926. Mrs. Jack was their only
child. To Mr. and Mrs. Jack were born three children: Catherine Isabel, born July 10, 1901, a graduate of East
Liverpool High School, now in the employ of the R. Thomas Company, East Liverpool; Hugh, born in 1907, engaged
in farming with his father; and John F., born June 22, 1914, a student.
Mr. Jack is identified with the Republican party in politics and is a member of the Yellow Creek Presbyterian Church.
