L. A. Hood is well and favorably known in Madison Township, where he is successfully engaged in general farming.
He was born in Independence Township, Washington County, Ohio, Nov. 11, 1866, and is the son of David B. and Lucinda
David B. Hood, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil War. He was born in Pennsylvania and at an early date removed
to Washington County, Ohio, where he farmed for many years. He was a Democrat, a member of the Christian Church,
and belonged to the Grand Army of the Republic. Mr. Hood died Aug. 25, 1921, at the age of 86 years, and his wife
died July 8, 1889, at the age of 50 years. Mr. and Mrs. Hood had seven children, as follows: J. J., lives in Jefferson
County, Ohio; L. A., the subject of this sketch; Mahala, married J. J. Enochs, lives in Washington County, Ohio;
Mary, married Jack Holmes, lives at Alliance, Ohio; Elizabeth, married Nathan Jacobs, Toronto, Ohio; and Caroline,
married George Haun, deceased.
L. A. Hood spent his boyhood in Washington County and attended the public schools. He engaged in farming with his
father for several years, later operated a farm in Jefferson County, and in 1920 purchased his present well improved
farm of 127 acres in Madison Township. With his general farming operations Mr. Hood is extensively engaged in stock
On June 29, 1888, Mr. Hood was united in marriage with Miss Margaret A. Moore, born in Washington County, Ohio,
June 3, 1872, the daughter of Joshua and Mary (Robinson) Moore, both deceased. There were six children in the Moore
family as follows: Thomas, lives in Cleveland; Mary, married Henry Wedger, lives in Pennsylvania; Mrs. Hood; Frederick,
lives in WeIlsville; William, lives in Wellsville; and Benjamin, lives at New Cumberland, W. Va. Eleven children
were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hood, as follows: Herbert, born May 1, 1889, mention of whom is made below; John, died
in infancy; Pearl, born in 1895, died in April, 1914; George, born March 18, 1899, lives at Steubenville, Ohio;
Lucinda, born Aug. 6, 1897, married Ernest Mosser, lives in Washington County, Ohio; James W., born Aug. 6, 1900,
lives in East Liverpool; Ernest, born in 1903, engaged in farming with his father; Jennie May, born July 31, 1905,
married Theodore Higgins, lives in East Liverpool; Bessie, born Dec. 26, 1908, Grace, born March 1, 1910, and Ruth,
born Aug. 7, 1912, all at home.
Herbert Hood is a veteran of the World War, having served overseas with Battalion C, 18th Field Artillery, Third
Division. He was also with the Army of Occupation in Germany after the war.
L. A. Hood is a Republican and has held many township offices. He is held in high regard in the county and is an
