John C. Hephner, who ranks among the prominent pioneer merchants of Leetonia, is a native of Columbiana County.
He was born at Lisbon, Dec. 15, 1861, and is a son of Henry and Lucretia (Neigh) Heplmer.
Henry Hephner, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil War. He was born at Lisbon in 1837, the son of John Hephner,
who was born at Hephner Hollow, near Lisbon. Henry Hephner was a tailor by trade and for 25 years engaged in business
at Lisbon. He removed to Leetonia in 1883, where he died in 1912. His wife, a native of Fairfield Township, Columbiana
County, died in 1909. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Nancy Neigh, pioneers of Columbiana County. To Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Hephner were born six children as follows: Mary L., the widow of U. S. Noid, lives at Leetonia; J. C.,
the subject of this sketch; Harry L., died in 1917; Albert F., lives in Leetonia; William, died in 1918; and Anna
F., lives at Leetonia.
J. C. Hephner was educated in the schools of Lisbon and Leetonia and was 20 years of age when he established his
present business, 44 years ago. Mr. Hephner carries on a general mercantile business and has a well established
