Morgan B. Francis, an enterprising and successful business man of East Palestine, was born in Trumbull County,
Ohio, Aug. 29, 1871, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (Morgan) Francis.
Benjamin Francis, retired, was born near Cardiff, Wales. Hls family came to the United States about 1867 and settled
at Youngstown, Ohio, where he was extensively engaged in coal mining for a number of years. In 1883 the Francis
family removed to Wadsworth, Ohio, and in 1888 to Lisbon, where they have since resided. Margaret (Morgan) Francis
died Nov. 11, 1923. Mr. and Mrs. Francis were the parents of five children: Thomas, a sketch of whom appears elsewhere
in this history; Edmund, lives at Niles, Ohio; Charlotte, married Edward Edwards, lives at Niles, Ohio; Mary, married
Joseph Morgan, lives at Canton, Ohio; and Morgan B., the subject of this sketch.
Morgan B. Francis spent his boyhood at Youngstown, Wadsworth and Lisbon, and attended the public schools. For 18
years he was connected with the Card & Prosser Coal Company of Lisbon and since 1908 has operated a coal mine
in partnership with his brother Thomas. They are among the leading coal operators of this section and their mines
have a daily output of 200 tons. They are also owners of a clay mine at Darlington, Pa.
In 1892 Mr. Francis was married to Miss Sarah Braley, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Braley, the former a native
of England and the latter of Wales. Mr. and Mrs. Francis have a daughter, Mary, who lives at home.
Mr. Francis attends the Methodist Episcopal Church and is affiliated with the Masonic Lodge. He is one of the substantial
citizens of Columbiana County and is well known.
