Biography of John A. Flooding

John A. Flooding is a prominent citizen and successful business man of Leetonia. He was born on the farm where he resides March 16, 1868, and is the son of William and Barbara (Kipp) Floding.

William Floding, deceased, was born in Saxony, Germany, and in 1855 came to the United States with his parents. They settled near Salem, Ohio, and in 1860 William Floding purchased the present farm in Salem Township. He died in April, 1907, and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia. Mr. Floding was one of the organizers of the Farmers & Merchants Banking Company, of which he served as vice president and director. He was a Democrat and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. His wife, a native of Westmoreland County, Pa., was born in 1841, and resides in Leetonia. To Mr. and Mrs. Flooding the following children were born: Magdelina, died at the age of 14 years; John A., the subject of this sketch; Mary, married E. E. Sitler, lives at Leetonia; Clara, deceased; Mrs. Ida Redfoot, lives in Leetonia; and Frederick W., in the post office at Leetonia.

John A. Floding attended the public schools of Leetonia and in 1895 formed a partnership with E. E. Sitler. They are wholesale and retail meat dealers and have a well established business in Leetonia. Mr. Floding is also extensively engaged in general farming and specializes in the raising of fruit.

On April 16, 1895, Mr. Floding was united in marriage with Miss Anna Wolfgang of Leetonia, the daughter of Noah and Ellen (Duck) Wolfgang. Mr. Wolfgang resides at Leetonia. His wife is deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Floding three children were born: Carrie, married Clarence Heck, lives at North Lima, Ohio, and they have two daughters, Helen and Mary; Helen, married Arthur Spatholt, lives at Leetonia; and William K, who died at the age of ten years.

Politically Mr. Floding is a Democrat. He is a member of the Lutheran Church and Masonic Lodge. He stands high in the community and has many friends and acquaintances.
