Biography of John W. Davis
Columbiana County, OH Biographies





John W. Davis is a leading and representative citizen of East Palestine and is widely known throughout Columbiana County. He was born near Lisbon in Elk Run Township, Aug. 15, 1877, and is the son of William and Amy (Chamberlin) Davis.

William Davis, now retired, is a native of Columbiana County, as was his wife. She is deceased.

John W. Davis received his education in the district schools and when a young man was employed on a farm. He then spent several years in a tin plate mill at Lisbon, after which he entered the coal mines of this section. He served as a representative of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for five years and is now engaged in business at Lisbon, with offices on North Market Street. His residence however, is in East Palestine. Mr. Davis served as a member of the school board of East Palestine for 12 years, and was clerk of the board.

On Sept. 10, 1902, Mr. Davis was united in marriage with Miss Martha Wainwright, of Lisbon, and they have eight children: Theda, Paul, Marion, John W., Jr., Arthur, Dale, Wayne and Betty.

Mr. Davis is an independent voter. He holds membership in the Methodist Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He and his family have a wide acquaintance in the community and many friends.
