Thomas Cadwallader is a prominent business man of Salem, where he is secretary and treasurer of the Salem Chattel
Mortgage Company. He was born at Middleton, Ohio, March 18, 1856, and is the son of Isaac and Esther (Alman) Cadwallader.
Isaac Cadwallader, deceased, was a native of New Castle, Pa., as was his wife. Most of his life was spent in farming
and the latter few years were devoted to the raising of strawberries, Mr. Cadwallader being among the pioneer strawberry
growers of that section. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cadwallader are deceased. They were the parents of five children, of
whom Thomas, the subject of this sketch, was the oldest.
Thomas Cadwallader was reared and educated at Middleton and Pittsburgh. He followed farming and coal mining for
some years and was a pioneer in the manufacturing of leg bands (poultry markers). He disposed of this business
and then became identified with The Salem Chattel Mortgage Company since its organization as secretary and treasurer.
Politically, Mr. Cadwallader is a Republican. He stands high in the community and has many friends and acquaintances.
