JONATHAN COUNTS was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, October 19, 1811. Early in life he removed to Shelby
county, Ohio, where he has since resided. His father's family were among the first settlers of that part of the
State, having settled there before the county organized. He still lives on the old farm in Shelby county, which
was purchased from the General Government.
He received a common school education. His profession is that of farming, and of surveyiug and civil engineering.
He served four or five terms as County Surveyor, and two terms as County Clerk.
He is a Democrat in polities, and was a member of the Cincinnati National Convention, in 1865, that nominated Buchanan.
He was married in the spring of 1843 to Miss Anna C. Treabing. He is a member of several standing committees in
the House, and of the Special Committee on Redistricting the State.
