DR. LEVI COLBY is the Representative from the counties of Defiance and Paulding, which is now the only district
in the State that is composed of two counties. He was born in Heuniker, Merrimack county, New Hampshire, June 15,
1817, and came to Ohio in July, 1839, and has resided in the northwestern counties of the State ever since. He
is a physician by profession, and has practiced medicine for over thirty years.
In June, 1843, he was united in marriage to Miss Harriet R. Phelps, of Defiance.
He has held nearly all the township offices, and was for two years Clerk of Williams county. In 1869 he was chosen
to represent the counties of Williams, Defiance and Paulding in the State Legislature, although the former county
elected a separate member, on the decision of the Attorney General. He was re-elected in 1871 by an increased Democratic
majority, having been nominated by acclamation.
Dr. Colby is a staunch Democrat, having never voted any other than a Democratic ticket in his life.
His postoffice address is Cecil, Paulding county, Ohio.
