Watkins, John E., son of Abraham and Mary (Wilcox) Watkins, was born in Gorham, Ontario County, N. Y., November
13, 1851, was educated at the district schools, except one term at the Penn Yan Academy. His father came to this
town in the spring of 1853, and bought a farm in the western part of the town, which John E. now owns. He has always
affiliated with the Republican party. He has served four years as justice of the peace, one term as supervisor
of Jerusalem, and is now superintendent of the poor of Yates County. He married Emma; daughter of Loren Thomas,
of this town, and they have four children, Charles M., Edward T., Mina S. and Mary K, all living at home.
