Root, John W., a farmer, living one mile north of Dundee, is a native of New Jersey, Sussex County, born March
4, 1815, a son of Michael and Ann (Waldreth) Roof, who were farmers John W. Roof learned the blacksmith trade in
1833, removed from New Jersey to Starkey, where he followed his trade for three years. He removed to Eddytown and
afterward engaged in farming. He has been twice married, his first wife being Rhoda Royce, a native of this county,
whom he married in 1846, and by whom he had one son. His wife died in 1846. He married, second, Cornelia B. Herniup,
by whom he had three, children, all deceased.
