Biography of Cornelius A. Dains
Yates County, NY Biographies





Dains, Cornelius A., son of Daniel W. and Nancy Drains, was born in the town of Milo, July 1, 1856, received a common school education. In 1859 his parents removed to Dresden, where he has always resided. In 1875, when nineteen years of age, he was postmaster at Dresden, under Grant's administration, and held that office until December 1, 1885. He was reappointed under President Harrison, June 12, 1889, which position he has held since. In 1886 he married Belle Alden, of Wellsville, Allegany County, N. Y. He was town clerk of Torrey nine years, and has been in mercantile business since 1875. He has one child, Clement Alden, born April 9, 1887.
