Culver, Franklin, son of William and Phebe (Swift) Culver, was born April 12, 1816, in Ledyard, Cayuga County,
N. Y., was educated at the common schools of that time and came with his parents to this town in 1836, and has
been a farmer all his life. In politics a Democrat, he has been commissioner of highways one term, and assessor
of this town four years. He married Harriet, daughter of Capt. John Phelps, of Bradford, Steuben County, N. Y.,
and they had ten children: Angeline and Mary Jane (deceased); John, who married Mary Cummings; Amanda M., who married
Hiram Cole; Julia, who married Benjamin Eggleston; Frank, Harriet, and William (deceased); Fred, and Vincent, who
married Carrie Race. First wife died in 1868; married Almeda Hewitt, widow of Lucius Hewitt, in 1871.
