Belknap, James A., son of Briggs Belknap, was born in Newbury, Orange County, N. Y., March 16, 1816, and came
with his father to Benton County when he was a young man, he remaining there until twenty five years of age, attending

He and his family are members of the Presbyterian Church at Branchport. June 16, 1842, he married Submit, daughter
of Clark Green, of this place, by whom he had the following children: Mary E., who married Morrison L. Chase; Adeline,
who married Melvin J. Davis; Frances A., and Charles G. Mrs. Belknap died March 19, 1884.
