Wheeler, Justus J., was born upon the site of his present home, October 24, 1834. He is one of a family of five
children, of whom only himself and one sister now survive. His mother, Clara, died in 1857, and his father, Willard,
two years later. Justus, until about forty years of age, was a carpenter and joiner, but has for twenty one years
devoted himself to the culture of the old homestead purchased in 1872. July 11, 1864, he married Alice, daughter
of Elisha and Icy Woodruff, of Frankfort, Herkimer county, N. Y. Alice was born March 4, 1848. They have two children,
Jennie, born September 21, 1865, and Claude J., born May 30, 1872. Jennie was engaged for several years in teaching
school, until July 2, 1893, when she married Andy W. Whitbeck, of Savannah, N. Y. Claude, also a school teacher,
is now at home engaged in farming and the evaporation of fruits. Having developed considerable mechanical genius,
in 1893, hesecured a patent upon a fruit bleacher of his own invention and construction, which has proved to be
of peculiar merit.
