Van Holden John, born in Holland September 3, 1827, is the fifth of fourteen children of John and Sahah Van
Holden, natives of Holland, who came to Marion in 1855, where Mr. Van Holde died in 1857, and his wife in 1860.
Subject was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools. He came to Williamson in 1853, where, with the
exception of thirteen years in Marion, he has resided. He owns forty nine acres of land, and follows general farming.
He married, in 1853, Tannetje Rosencrantz, a native of Holland, by whom he has had three children: John, Jacob,
and William. Two died in infancy. Mr. Van Holde was assessor nine years, and he and family are members of the Reformed
church.
