Van Valkenburg, C. F., was born at Victory, Cayuga county, November 6, 1848. When eighteen years of age he learned
the jeweler's trade at Port Byron, and in 1869 established himself at Red Creek, where he remained five years.
In 1874 he came to Wolcott as a partner for six years with W. D. Campbell, and in 1880 established an independent
business, now conducted by his son Lee. September 1, 1874, he married Alida Williams, of Red Creek, and they have
two children: Lee, born July 14, 1875, and Genevieve, born July 4, 1878. Mr. Van Valkenburg was appointed postmaster
of Wolcott, April 1, 1894.
