Hoyt, A. W., a veteran of the Civil War, was born at Weedsport, Cayuga county, November 5, 1846, the youngest
son of Aaron F. Hoyt. At sixteen years of age, a student at Weedsport, he enlisted in Battery I, 3d N. Y. Light
Artillery. His experience during the war possessed more than the usual vicissitudes of a soldier's life, and during
an expedition to Plymouth, N. C., he received injuries which culminated in the loss of an eye, and for disability
he was discharged in July, 1865, after three years of service. it is a fact worthy of note that he was the youngest
of five brothers: William, Aaron, Abner, Judson, and Adin, all of whom were in the service and in the same company
and regiment.
