Thomas, E. J., was born in Dryden, May 26, 1840, a son of Benjamin, a native, of Dutchess county, who was left
an orphan when young, and worked at farming till hem reached manhood, when he married Mary, daughter of Bryant
Thomas, of Dutchess county, and in 1834 moved to the farm now occuppied by our subject. Here he died in 1872, having
been a prosperous farmer and a good citizen. He and wife had four children, E. J. being the third. He also followed
farming through early life. He was educated in the public schools and at the age of twenty three married Olive
R Winfield, daughter of William Winfield of Slaterville, and they had two children, Mary and Jane. Mr. Thomas has
always voted the Republican ticket.
